Our friend Florine Luhr shared this special Molasses Cookies recipe, which has been in her family for close to 100 years!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup sugar, plus additional sugar for rolling cookies
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
Preparation
Pre-heat the oven to 375°F.
Cream the butter and sugar. Add the molasses and egg and beat well. Sift the remaining ingredients and add to the sugar mixture. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Roll the dough into small balls, then roll in additional granulated sugar. Place the cookies two inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Flatten each cookie slightly with the bottom of a glass.
Bake for 8-10 minutes.
